Everest Region Trekking – Gateway to the Roof of the World
The Everest Region, also known as the Khumbu Region, is one of the most iconic and celebrated trekking destinations in the world. Located in northeastern Nepal within Sagarmatha National Park, this region is home to Mt. Everest (8,848.86m) – the world’s highest peak – along with several other towering Himalayan giants like Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, and Cho Oyu.
Starting Point of the Trek
Most treks in the Everest region begin with a scenic mountain flight from Kathmandu to Lukla (2,860m), a small airstrip perched on a hillside. From Lukla, trekkers enter the heart of the Khumbu valley, gradually ascending through charming Sherpa villages, rhododendron forests, glacial rivers, and monasteries.
Popular Trekking Routes in the Everest Region:-
1. Everest Base Camp Trek (EBC Trek)
- Duration: 12–16 days
- Highlights: Kala Patthar (5,545m) sunrise, EBC (5,364m), Tengboche Monastery, Sherpa villages
- Most popular route for trekkers to get close to Everest.
2. Gokyo Lake Trek
- Duration: 12–14 days
- Highlights: Stunning turquoise Gokyo Lakes, Gokyo Ri (5,360m) for panoramic views of Everest and surrounding peaks.
4. Everest Three Passes Trek
- Duration: 17–21 days
- Passes: Kongma La (5,535m), Cho La (5,420m), Renjo La (5,360m)
- Challenging route for adventure lovers that connects EBC, Gokyo, and all three major passes.
5. Everest View Trek
- Duration: 5–7 days
- Ideal for those with limited time or who prefer lower altitudes.
- View of Everest from Tengboche or Namche Bazaar.
6.Jiri to Everest Base Camp Trek
- Duration: 20–24 days
- The classic route used by Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary in 1953. Starts with a long drive to Jiri and then trek to join Lukla trail.
7. Everest Trek with Drive-to-Surke Route (Avoiding Lukla Flight)
- Drive from Kathmandu to Salleri- 8-10hrs drive
- Jeep/bus from Salleri to Surke-6-7hrs/ 55–60 km, taking about 6–7 hours over rugged, often off-road terrain.
- From Surke, you can trek directly toward Phakding, bypassing Lukla town entirely.

Buddhist monasteries, prayer flags, mani walls, and chortens are scattered throughout the area, signifying the Sherpa people's deep spiritual ties. Traditional dances and rituals are performed to commemorate festivals such as Dumji ,Mani Rimdu and Lhosar.
